How to Get Fit With a Busy Schedule

It’s easy for busy people to let their fitness goals fall by the wayside. To be honest [speaking as a Fitness Professional] it makes complete sense. Listen, you have hectic work days, you battle with traffic, you have meetings, you have deadlines to meet and you have to deal with traffic when you leave work as well. How do you fit in time to go to the gym? Is it even feasible to factor in 20 or 30 minutes of exercise – let alone an hour?

To put it simply…yes. You have to WANT to put your fitness goals at the top of your list of priorities. You have to WANT to find ways to squeeze fitness into your busy schedule.

I primarily work with professionals who frequently travel and have unforgiving schedules. Even with time being their biggest enemy – they still find the time to train! Why? Because they know the benefits are far greater than the perceived inconvenience.

1) Wake Up Early – Sounds horrible doesn’t it? But to tell you the truth, training first thing in the morning is probably the best thing you can do if you have a hectic schedule. Believe it or not, your day will go so much smoother after you’ve started it with something productive. Then you don’t have to worry about dealing with traffic after work, and you can go straight home and watch Law & Order (at least that’s what I do).

2) Lunch Breaks – How long do you get for lunch? An hour? Maybe a little more? You can complete a really intense workout within 30 minutes. It’s all about wanting to reach your goals, and using your time wisely. Some worry about when they’ll have time to eat. Simple, eat before or after your scheduled lunch break use a portion of your break to exercise.

3) Immediately After Work – How close is the nearest gym to your job? Why do I ask? Because there are two things that you and I both know, 1) There is a higher chance that you’ll run into traffic when you get off from work [especially if you live in Austin] and 2) The chances of you leaving your house to work out are slim to none. So go directly to the gym, beat traffic and then head home to relax for the rest of the day.

Don’t let a hectic schedule detour you away from your fitness goals. Use your time wisely and make your health a priority.
